Wash. Insurance Department Introduces Online Consumer Tool Kit

Typing on laptopWashington state auto insurance regulators have launched a new online tool kit to better help consumers access information about insurance companies and agents that they may be considering doing business with.

The online tool goes a long way to help prospective policyholders purchase coverage from only the best rated auto insurance companies by making complaint and financial rating data more accessible.

Washington consumers who use the tool kit can look up coverage providers either by company or by agent.

A company search quickly brings up information about how to contact the company, who is authorized to sell their coverage, whether they’ve had disciplinary action taken against them by state regulators and how many complaints have been filed against them by policyholders in the past two years.

Complaint data accessed through the online tool is relatively thorough. They are broken down into the types of complaints filed, and a link is provided in order to access the complaint-comparison tool, which balances out the number of complaints by making them relative to the number of policies the insurer has in place in the state. By using this tool, consumers are better able to evaluate side-by-side the customer service records of providers.

In addition, the tool kit provide easy access to financial rating agencies. These agencies help motorists by assigning scores to insurers based on their financial strength so that prospective buyers can make an educated decision about choosing an insurer that is likely to remain solvent.
