Progressive Snapshot Discount Comes to Mississippi and Wyoming

Progressive Snapshot deviceDrivers in Mississippi and Wyoming are now eligible for Progressive’s Snapshot discount program, which allows customers with safer driving patterns to save up to 30 percent on a car insurance policy.

The pay-as-you-drive (PAYD) program – a usage-based insurance policy – uses a device to monitor one’s driving patterns and create a personalized insurance rate.

People who demonstrate driving behaviors that are less likely to result in a car accident, such as driving less or during safer time periods, are eligible candidates for the program that is already available 34 states.

To participate in the program, customers plug a Snapshot device to their vehicle’s electronic diagnostic port, which will track their driving activity for 30 days to determine discount eligibility. The data will be collected for an additional five months to generate a policy renewal rate for the customer.

The device tracks driving times and speeds, so behaviors such as sudden braking are recorded.  Minimal driving during peak hours or between midnight and 4 a.m., driving fewer miles than average and avoiding heavy braking will have better access to cheap auto insurance.

These behaviors result in reduced rates because they have been shown to lower the likelihood of being involved in a car accident.

A customer’s policy rate will not increase based on their driving habits and the program can be canceled at any time, according to Progressive.
