Record Keeping Helps Ensure Car Insurance Cos. Bill Correctly

File folders with documentsIt’s important for motorists to keep careful record of all their motor-vehicle related documents. Consumers never know when they will need to retrieve pertinent information.

ABC affiliate KGO-TV in San Francisco, Calif., reports how being a meticulous record keeper helped benefit a man. San Jose resident Carlos Avitia became unhappy with his multiple policies he held with Farmers Insurance after the company began sending him multiple insurance bills a month, according to the news outlet.

Avitia told the station that he became frustrated because he was never late with a payment.

“I paid in full for the four policies, and all of a sudden I receive another bill asking me to pay extra money,” Avitia told the station.

Avitia’s anger grew even more when he canceled his policy and the insurer refused to repay him the total amount, KGO says.

Fortunately for Avitia, he did finally get his money back after the car insurance coverage provider was contacted by the company.

Keeping good records can help clear up any discrepancies a policyholder may have with an insurer. Furthermore, keeping accurate and detailed information after an accident, for example, may help expedite the claims process due to more detailed information being readily available.
