Certain auto insurance policies can cover a bicyclist’s losses

Some auto insurance covers bicycle accidents.Drivers know that auto insurance coverage will protect them in the event of an accident, but bicyclists are often covered by such policies as well.

Increasingly, bicycles and cars have been sharing the road, and cyclists should receive auto insurance coverage recommendations as the first step towards becoming protected in the event of an accident.

Claude Wyle, a California attorney, tells Injuryboard.com that he is quick to remind bicycle riders that if they are hit by a car, their own auto insurance should cover their losses – medical payments and all. The uninsured motorist clause can also provide ample protection.

Josh Putnam, a bicycling enthusiast, writes on Phred.org that "if you are a motorist as well as a bicyclist, you may be surprised to find that the medical payments or personal injury protection coverage of your auto insurance may provide coverage to you if you are struck by a car while bicycling or walking." These policies do vary, and consumers should check with their insurance provider to see what exactly their coverage entails.ADNFCR-3298-ID-19768728-ADNFCR
