Coaches are selected based on fan votes, media and the College Hall of Fame. Liberty Mutual Insurance awards winning coaches with $50,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice and $20,000 for the school’s alumni association.

Liberty Mutual Insurance’s senior vice president, Greg Gordon, says football isn’t just about winning games.

“It is about the team’s performance on and off the field, and the coach that provides the leadership to balance the two,” says Gordon. “The Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award recognizes just that – the coaches’ excellence on the field, dedication to the student-athletes and responsibility to the community around them.”

Award winners will be announced in January.

The car insurance coverage provider supports a number of other initiatives, including the “No Phone Zone,” a program aimed at increasing awareness of distracted driving.
