Auto Insurance Provider Expands Availability of Roadside App

Car insurance provider AAA recently launched an Android-compatible version of its Roadside Assistance app, which is already available for iPhone users.

The smartphone app allows customers to more easily take advantage of the services provided through the company’s roadside service program.

One of the advantages of using the app to place a service request is that the phone’s GPS capability allows for direct transmission of a customer’s location.

Additional functions include a battery quote calculator, which provides pricing for replacement batteries based on the type of car, and a locator for AAA approved auto repair facilities. These facilities “are inspected by AAA and must meet and maintain tough professional standards for training, cleanliness, customer service and equipment,” according to an AAA press release.

Up to eight vehicles can be placed on one app profile.

According to AAA, the iPhone version of the Roadside Assistance app has been downloaded more than 500,000 times since its debut in 2009.

“Breakdowns are never a pleasant experience,” said the vice president of AAA Automotive and Financial Services, Marshall Doney, “but mobile offerings such as the AAA Roadside app can help AAA locate members quickly and be prepared to try to resolve their car trouble on-site so we can get them back on the go.”

The insurance provider is just one of the latest car insurance companies to expand its mobile offerings.
